A custom text tone can help you distinguish between text messages from a handful of people, and choose to revert or ignore, as you like. You can set different text tones for different contacts- for example, a gunshot tone for your boss.

The settings for these custom text tones vary with the Android phone model or the application.

Setting a custom text tone on Google messages

Google messages is a trendy and highly used application on Android phones. It is free to download and use, and can be installed from the ‘Play Store.’

The steps to set a custom tone on Google messages are:

  1. Go to the Google messages.

  2. Locate the contact and open the chat box for which you want to set the text tone.

  3. On the top-right of the screen, tap on the three-dotted menu icon.

  4. Select the ‘Details’ option from the pop-up window.

  5. Next, click on the ‘Notifications’ tab and then ‘Sound.’

  6. A list of tones will appear. You can select whichever tone you want and tap on the same.

  7. Click on the ‘Ok/Save’ button, whichever is available, to save the settings.

Setting a custom text tone on Samsung messages

The updated versions of Samsung have introduced a new look, but the basic working with the device remains the same. The steps to set a custom tone on Samsung messages are:

  1. Go to the Samsung messages.

  2. Locate the contact and open the chat box for which you want to set the text tone.

  3. On the top-right of the screen, tap on the three-dotted menu icon.

  4. Turn the slider on for ‘Custom Notifications’ from the pop-up menu.

  5. Next, click on the ‘Custom Notifications’ tab and then ‘Sound.’

  6. A list of tones will appear. You can select whichever tone you want and tap on the same.

  7. Tap the back arrow on the top-left corner of the screen, and the settings will be saved automatically.

Setting a custom text tone on Pulse SMS

The steps to set a custom tone on Pulse SMS are:

  1. Go to the Pulse messages.

  2. Locate the contact and open the chatbox for which you want to set the text tone.

  3. On the top-right of the screen, tap on the three-dotted menu icon.

  4. Click on the ‘Conversation Settings’ option from the pop-up window.

  5. Next, click on the ‘Conversation Notification Customization’ tab, and then ‘Sound.’

  6. Select whichever tone is suitable for your contact and press the back arrow, ok, or save button, whatever is available to save the changes.

Setting a custom text tone on Textra SMS

The steps to set a custom tone on Textra SMS are:

  1. Go to the Textra messages.

  2. Locate the contact and open the chatbox for which you want to set the text tone.

  3. Click on the downward pointer on the top-right of the screen and click on the ‘Customize this conversation’ option.

  4. Next, click on the ‘Notifications’ button and then ‘Notification Sound.’

  5. Select whichever tone is suitable for your contact and press the ‘Ok’ button to save changes.

Setting a custom text tone on Mood Messenger

The steps to set a custom tone on Mood messenger are:

  1. Go to the Mood messenger.

  2. Locate the contact and open the chatbox for which you want to set the text tone.

  3. On the top-right of the screen, tap on the three-dotted menu icon.

  4. Select the ‘Options’ from the pop-up window.

  5. In the ‘Notifications & Sounds’ tab, select ‘Current Tone.’

  6. You can set a text tone in three ways.

  7. Click on the ‘Bell’ icon to let the app pick a tone for you.

  8. Hit the Microphone button to record something and set it as your text tone.

  9. You can set a tone from the File Manager.

  10. Once you’re done selecting a text tone, click on the ‘Ok’ button to save the changes.
